Frequently Asked Questions

I live in Canada/outside Canada/the Moon- can I work with you?

At this time I am only able to provide services to residents of Alberta and Nova Scotia. But when my practice permit for the Moon comes through, I’d be delighted to work with you!

What are your qualifications?

I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Calgary, and am a Registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers. The majority of my training post-degree has been focused on trauma, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I am a certified Perinatal Mental Health practitioner, and have also completed training in suicide assessment and intervention, anxiety, Indigenous mental health, sexual abuse, and Trauma-Focused CBT.

What are your rates?

We will start with a free 15-20 minute consultation to get an understanding of how we could work together and whether you think I would be a good fit for your needs. If we decide that you would like to move forward, I charge $170/hr or $225/1.5hr for all telehealth sessions. Should rates increase, you will receive a notice of at least 6 weeks.

What is it like to go to therapy?

If you’ve never been to therapy before, the process can feel like a mystery! But really, therapy is all about having the time and space to check in with yourself, which can be hard to find these days. Therapy can also involve education about mental health and our brains, learning new coping strategies, and recognizing your strengths and resiliencies.

Usually we start out with a quick hello and check in, and then we move into what you want to talk about or continue with the topic from the previous session. If you are open to doing artwork then we may incorporate that as well! To end I may check in with you about how our conversation went, and then we can determine together what the next step will be. And that’s it- that’s therapy!

How do you ensure quality care?

I have a supervisor that I regularly meet with, as well as other practitioners that I can access for consultation. Additionally, I am accountable to the standards and ethics of the social work profession. You can learn more by clicking the links below:

Code of Ethics

Do you diagnose?

I cannot provide a formal diagnosis to those I work with. If a diagnosis is needed, or if it is very important to you to receive one, I can refer you on to someone who can provide that service.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, with a few exceptions that we will go over during out initial consultation.

On my end, I work from home in a secure room using headphones so we will not be overheard, and I do not share any information. It is important to note that there may be times when I need to consult with my supervisor or colleagues in the field- when this occurs, I do not share any identifying information regarding my clients.

How is my privacy protected?

I utilize a practice management system called JaneApp, which is PIPEDA/HIPAA compliant. All client information, including notes and scheduling, is maintained on this platform, and I am the only person able to access it. If you have more questions about this, feel free to ask!

What do I need to set up for telehealth sessions?

You will need a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone, and a space in your home where you feel comfortable sharing your experience. Headphones can be helpful as well.
We will utilize the JaneApp telehealth platform, which can be accessed with an app on your phone/tablet or via a link on your computer.

Do you direct bill?

Currently I do not offer direct billing, but will provide receipts for sessions to be submitted to your benefits. Payment is made via credit card or etransfer.

Can mealtime support help with disordered eating?

I am not a specialist in eating disorders, so would not be a good fit for your family if your child is struggling with an eating disorder or severe picky eating. If this is the case, I can refer you on to a more appropriate practitioner or a Registered Dietitian.

However, if you find that you dread mealtimes because of battles over food, or you would like to help your child (and yourself/your partner) develop a better relationship with food, I may be a good fit!
